Over the past few decades, the Atkins diet has really hit the diet world with full force. This health phenomenon is based on The Atkins Diet, a book by Dr. Robert C. Atkins. His concept for weight loss is that we need to be concerned with the carbohydrates we eat, not the fat. Many people have found great success using the Atkins diet. However, it is not for everyone. Before you start the Atkins diet, or any kind of diet, talk to your doctor to make sure it is a good idea for you.
When you’re on the Atkins diet, there will be little calorie counting, but say good-bye to junk foods and processed foods. You will also be eating few carbohydrates and many foods high in protein. The theory behind the low-carb diet found with the Atkins diet is that by reducing your intake of these foods, you will enter a phase in your body called ketosis. During ketosis, your body will burn fat in the body for fuel instead of using the foods in your diet, which will in turn stop insulin production, which will in turn prevent more fat from being stored.
There are four main stages to the Atkins diet: induction, ongoing weight loss, pre-maintenance, and maintenance. During the first two weeks, you are in the induction stage. During this time, many people report losing 15 pounds or more, simply because carbohydrate intake is cut down to 20 grams every day. The only carbs you can have are low-carb vegetables, and even then they are very limited. The second stage, known as ongoing weight loss, will let you have 25 grams every day. You will then move on to pre-maintenance, in which you can try out other foods to see what carbohydrates you can add into your diet. After you’ve reached your weight loss goals, you may eat all good carbs, but the premise behind the diet plan is that you won’t want to eat these foods. Choosing healthy carbs will become a way of life.
As with any diet, you’ll have to exercise in order to lose weight. Healthy lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking, are also important. Many people have called into question the safety of the Atkins diet due to its severe methods, and some say that the plan only makes you bounce back to your original weight as so as you hit the maintenance level. The key is to find something that works for you and your weight loss goals and that is healthy for your body.
I have found when I used the Atkins Diet that I focused on quantity. One of the premises behind the Atkins Diet is that you can eat all the food you desire so long as it is low in carbs and high in protein. I had the mindset I could eat whatever quantity I desired so long as it was low in carbs. I have found this to be a fallacy with the Atkins Diet. While you may lose weight because the food you eat is low in carbs, you are still may eating a huge number of calories. What happens when you try to go back to a “normal diet”?
You do not need to worry about a “normal diet” when you balance your mind and body through nutrition. See what I’m talking about http://bit.ly/b8difh

Looking at this data So i’m thrilled to mention that I’ve got a positive sense I stubled onto just what I was ready for. I have tried several of the diet programs that were featured today on GMA. I have also done Weight Watchers. Not until I went on the Take Shape for Life program that uses Medifast meals have I ever felt so good. I lost the same amount of weight on Atkins, Weight Watchers and several others but only with Medifast did I lose fat all over my body and maintain muscle mass. I was getting all of the vitamins and minerals that my body needs which I cannot say with Atkins or Weight Watchers. On other programs, I was allowed to use all of my “points” for the day to eat chocolate cake if I wanted. Take Shape for Life helped me get the weight off with Medifast meals and my coach helped me to transition back to regular healthy food once my goal was met. I have had continual support from my coach and I am not tied to the product for an eternity. It is a lifestyle change which has included eating smaller nutritional food every three hours and exercise. I have never felt better and am so thankful to the Take Shape for Life program in their mission to get America healthy!

Cereal is great for breakfast, but it makes me hungry in no time…So i usually eat oatmeal or yogurt mixed with blueberries or strawberries. There is nothing wrong with eating eggs in the morning, especially if they are not fried but boiled instead. Just have one instead of three with some tomato a
MSG is usually a neurotoxin. There are actually a great deal more individuals who are responsive to msg than you are likely to think…many don’t have any idea themselves but suffer the reactions never understanding what these are reacting to. Simply obtaining a headache is minor when compared with how badly MSG affects those people who are sensitive and in some cases those who find themselves not.
Hey Jillian my names Nick. I’m 16 years old and want to lose weight. For the last few months I’ve tried to cut 2 inches off my waist. I used elipticals, burnt 500 cals in 30 mins. I’ve done that for a few months and didn’t see much difference. Over the summer I only lost 5 lbs. =/ What a bummer. Is there any possible way I can cut 2 inches in like 3 weeks by eating healthy and exercising? I’m 6 feet, what is the appropriate weight I should have? Please help me. 🙁 (I weight 205)
I believe 1500 calories may still be on the low side for you. But you can give it a try and cycle up the calorie count by a few hundred once or twice a week. Hopefully that will help keep your metabolism running smoothly. Also, choose some kind of exercise that you will like! It is so much easier to be active when we’re doing things we like to do and when we can participate with others. I discovered I like doing something I never in a million years would have thought I could do. I’ve run two half-marathons. One at age 54 and then age 55. My 23 year old daughter didn’t think she could run a half-marathon either but she gave it a try this fall because after all her “OLD†mother had done it. She did very well.
In my opinion, the best option would be to skip the powder altogether and simply eat a nutritious meal consisting of whole foods after a workout.
I know how you feel i am 13 years old and i weigh 180 pounds and kids at my school call you big fat spongebob and everything and i cry all the time and sometimes i starve myself.
Just a warning to those that have had their gallbladder removed. My liver became very inflamed while on this diet. I became very sick and had lots of back pain and had no energy. My doctor explained that the liver cannot do the gallbladders job, so I should be on a low fat diet and take digestive enzymes with each meal. Since changing to a low fat diet, which consists of lots of fresh veggies, fruit, chicken breast, turkey breast, fish, seafood, pork tenderloin, bison burger and whole grains, I have lost 15 pounds and I’m feeling great. I wish I would of known this 3 years ago, after losing my gallbladder to an IV antibiotic that I was taking at the time. I could of avoided a whole lot of problems, if I would of started eating this way and taking digestive enzymes then. Good luck to you! I think it may work, if you don’t have digestive issues. If you start to get pain in your right side and feel sluggish, you might want to rethink this diet.
You guys that are eating yogurt with aspartame are really doing yourself a disservice because you should read about the number of people who say they are hungrier and have gained weight from using it. The artificial sweetners need to be left alone.
